How should we judge a government?

In Malaysia, if you don't watch television or read newspapers, you are uninformed; but if you do, you are misinformed!

"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." - Malcolm X

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience - Mark Twain

Why we should be against censorship in a court of law: Publicity is the very soul of justice … it keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial. - Jeremy Bentham

"Our government is like a baby's alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no
responsibility at the other. " - Ronald Reagan

Boycott MSM?

I believe BN won largely because of their control over all our mainstream media. For example, Prima Media is controlled by Umno and The Star by MCA. If not for genuine news items, the rest are propaganda passing off as news. Rais, our ex-minister of information said 10-minute airtime is sufficient for each political party, yet the rest related to BN this, and Najib that. Under the guise of 1Malaysia, public funds were spent to gain popularity of BN, and Najib in particular.

Media Prima has just announced their record profits, due largely to advertisements, which I am sure came from government funds to the advantage of BN. With or without public's boycott, you can be sure their profits will drop as a result of the drop in such advertisements.

I take exception to NTV7's Nightline description of the GE13, 'Clean and transparent' when the consensus from the accredited NGOs like IDEAS and CPPS was 'Partially free, but not fair'.
